Professor Kasper König (*1943) curated the “Claes Oldenburg” exhibition at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm at the age of twenty-three. While still a student, he organized several exhibitions and published numerous books. In 1985, König became Professor of Art and the Public, a newly-created position at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf. Three years later, he accepted a professorship at the Städelschule Frankfurt, where from 1989 he served as president. During this period he became founding director of Portikus in Frankfurt/Main. König’s exhibitions have included “Westkunst,” Messehallen, Cologne, 1979; “von hier aus,” Messe Düsseldorf, 1984; and “Der zerbrochene Spiegel,” in Vienna and Hamburg, 1993. In 2000 he directed the art project accompanying the Hannover EXPO titled “In-Between Architecture.” König was Director of Museum Ludwig in Cologne from 2000 to 2012. Together with Klaus Bußmann, he organized the first Skulptur Projekte Münster in 1977.
